THANKS TO OUR DONORS

Our donors know they are truly making a difference in the lives of children who have nowhere else to turn. Perhaps because they know how much their gifts matter, they are extraordinarily generous and faithful. Most of NYOF’s income comes from individual donors; foundations also make grants to support our work. Only a small percentage of our gifts originate with corporations. Describing NYOF's donors with the usual lists of "sponsors," "supporters," and so on just doesn't suffice. Instead, we will share some of the creative ways that different people from all walks of life have helped NYOF's work.
- One donor provided supplemental funding for 50 heart surgeries, largely for children. Most of these children would have died without the help they received from this generous contributor.
-
Each year, a Girl Scout troop in California raises money for Indentured Daughters by holding a sale of crafts and other items.
- A Canadian donor sold cappuccinos at a neighborhood fair to raise funds, and created a poster board with pictures of NYOF projects to encourage donations.
- His wife, a superb baker, has an on-line site which sells her yummy creations, with all profits going to NYOF.
- Another donor, a teacher, ran a marathon and had friends, family, parents of students, and coworkers sponsor him on NYOF's behalf. He also held a music night at his school and sold cookies and milk, with the profits going to NYOF.
- A Nepali-American who heads a computer company donated an enormous amount of the time of his employees to create this web site.
- Many donors, with NYOF's cooperation, have sold jewelry and other items, with a portion of the profits going to NYOF.
- One donor, who is interested in the education of girls, has contributed a generous sum to provide 400 low caste young girls with schooling for five years.
- The dZi Foundation provides funds each year to operate our wildly successful NRH project in Kathmandu .
- A committed donor, who is a dentist, donates all the proceeds from teeth-whitening procedures to NYOF.
-
Many donors have hosted fund-raising events at their homes on NYOF's behalf.
- The children from a public school in New York studied many aspects of Nepal and its culture as their year's project, and raised a substantial sum for our Indentured Daughters program by cooking and serving a lunch of Nepalese food for their teachers, breakfast for their parents, and making greeting cards and posters. Their letters to NYOF about the project show what a profound effect learning about the plight of other children had on them. One student wrote, “ Nepal taught me a lot. Not everyone has a life as good as ours. We shouldn't take for granted things like school. I think that Nepal needs support; everyone should have a good life.”
We could go on and on. Every donor has a story, just as every child does. Wherever you are, whatever you can contribute—it will make a difference. Please join us! |
