How You Can Help Give Nepali children schools, orphanages, and health care

Sponsor a Nepali Child's Education

NYOF supports children in a wide range of educational programs, including schools for the disabled and colleges in Kathmandu. There are far more impoverished, highly motivated students in Nepal than we can currently provide for. Please consider giving a Nepali child an education and the unimagined opportunities that come with it.

A girl who was just freed from virtual slavery by NYOF's Indentured Daughters ProgramIndentured daughters. You can rescue a girl from indentured servitude, let her come home to live with her family, pay her school expenses for a year, and provide her family with a baby goat or piglet, for only $100. For $350, you can rescue a girl from bondage and pay for her education for six years, so that she can graduate from the 10th grade and be able to support herself. Because these girls live in remote areas and typically don't have mail or electricity, it isn't possible to keep in touch with them. Learn more about the Indentured Daughters Program.

J and K House. The children in J and K House are orphans, disabled, former child beggars, or abandoned or abused by their families. They now live in two of the best children's homes in Nepal, where they are surrounded by loving, supportive people. They're receiving excellent educations that will afford them opportunities that would have been unthinkable without NYOF's help. Many of the new members of J and K House are in need of sponsors. For $1900 per year, you can provide a child with a home, an education, and all the love a family can provide. These children correspond with their sponsors regularly, and a number of the sponsors have developed such strong relationships with their children that they have visited them in Kathmandu. Sponsors also receive photographs of their child and information about their academic progress. Learn more about J and K House.

Scholarships for disabled students. You can enable a disabled child who can't go to a regular school to learn to be independent, as well as to receive an education. NYOF supports students from grade school to college, and even graduate school, who are blind, deaf, and have other disabilities. Without the funding to attend special schools, these children wouldn't even be able to read or write, and would have no way to earn a living. The cost of providing one of these young children with an education is $300 per year. Learn more about the disabled children supported by NYOF.

Boarding school. You can support a child who doesn't have a home, a family, or anywhere else to turn for help, by paying for them to attend a good boarding school in Kathmandu. Your sponsorship of $1400 will pay all of a child's school, medical, and living expenses. Sponsors of boarding school students receive letters from their child twice a year, as well as photographs and update letters from NYOF staff. Learn more about NYOF's boarding school scholarships.

Nirmala Gyawali, a young blind woman who now works for the U.N.
"If NYOF had not saved me, I might be begging on the streets for survival. For most people with disabilities, they're either confined to the four walls of their home or to begging."

College scholarships. Many extremely bright, motivated but impoverished Nepali students complete high school but have no hope of paying for college. You can provide a child with the means to earn a college degree, which is usually the only way destitute youth can begin to build a decent career. NYOF gives priority to women, the disabled, and applicants of low-caste, who are severely disadvantaged in Nepali society. A college scholarship costs only $750 per year. Sponsors of a college student receive personal letters from the child, photographs, and updates from NYOF's staff about the child's progress. Learn more about NYOF's college scholarships.

Village scholarships. You can pay for all the school expenses of an impoverished child in a village in rural Nepal for only $75 per year. Your sponsorship will enable a child to break free from the cycle of poverty that traps rural Nepalis. Since these children are in remote areas where mail and electricity are unreliable at best, it isn't possible to keep in touch with them. Learn more about the village children supported by NYOF.
