Each of the children we help has a story— sometimes tragic, sometimes harrowing, but always inspiring. We could tell hundreds of stories. Here are only a few. (Please note that out of respect for the children, we have changed some names.) Santosh now lives at J House and no longer has to herd cows all day. Sajani lived with the members of her aboriginal tribe and had no one to care for her since her parents died. She now has a secure home at K House. Sapana was orphaned when her father killed her mother and baby brother and she had to beg for food in the village to survive, yet she is doing well in her private school and is happy being a part of the K House family. Maya was blessed by love amid the terrible ruins of a temple. Her story reveals the true meaning of "family." Pushpa is determined to become a nurse, despite the abuse she has endured at home. Before Kamala received a scholarship from NYOF, she couldn't even afford pens and pencils. Menuka appreciates getting the same education as wealthier people, and wants to work for women's rights. Sita calls her scholarship from NYOF her "golden opportunity", and is committed to become a doctor and help the poor in remote regions of Nepal.
