Menuka's Story | "I am happy that this scholarship has provided an opportunity for us to get education on equitable basis with other rich and high class people"

I am a girl born in a very poor and impoverished family. There are altogether 10 members in our family- my father, two mothers, brother, brother-in-law, and my younger brothers and sisters. Though my family is big in terms of numbers, there are limited members who contribute for the economic earnings of the family. It has been difficult for us to meet our financial needs with the monthly earning of my brother (Rs. 2000 – about $25) and some irregular earning of my father.

As soon as the scholarship program started, poor students like me have got opportunity to go to school. I want to develop and strengthen this society. I am determined to struggle for the rights and equity of women and girls. This scholarship has made a significant contribution to educate and to empower me. Besides, it has helped me to meet my regular educational costs.

In my opinion, education is the most powerful tool for human. It can change an individual's behavior and manner in positive ways. It builds up your confidence level and develops your personality. That is why I can achieve my goal of social change only by getting quality education. This scholarship has helped me a lot for that purpose.

This scholarship has helped to meet the education needs of hundreds of children like me and has contributed a lot to ensure a bright future for economically poor children. In absence of this support, dalit and poor children like us would have to suffer from a very uncertain and gloomy future. I am happy that this scholarship has provided an opportunity for us to get education on equitable basis with other rich and high class people. We can also become a renowned person if we get equal access to education.
